L'horizon fantastique
Piéces pour Piano et Violon par Gabriel Fauré
Here are the two violin sonatas and the Romance for violin and piano as a premiere recording on period instruments. The french Vuillaume violin from 1856 and the Erard grand piano (Faurés favourite instrument) bring the music to life as it might have sounded at the premiere of his works at the Société Nationale in Paris, about 100 years ago. "Ariadne Daskalakis and Roglit Ishay present a wonderfully unified performance, with the high-tensile thread of sound spun by violinist Daskalakis finely structuring the whole" (Die Welt) "Daskalakis carried her listeners downstream from one phrase to the next, as if her river of music were infinitely replenishable" (Globe and Mail, Toronto)
