Alta Musica
Ciconia, Dufay, Wolkenstein
"The Alta Musica Ensemble specializes in medieval wind music, with special emphasis on the double-reed woodwinds - the shawms. This album presents lovers of these old wind instruments with 21 splendid pieces by composers like Johannes Ciconia, Guillaume Dufay and Oswald von Wolkenstein. The incisive sound of two shawms of contrasting pitch blends well with the more pliable, softer tone of the recorders. The ensemble plays the dances and songs with fluent buoyancy and one cannot fail to be impressed by its flexibility and sensitive playing."
